Regarding The Holy Spirit

But now in Christ Jesus, ye which once were far off, are made near by the blood of Christ. For through him we both have an entrance unto the Father by one Spirit.

There is a witness to our spirit. This is the essential element of how we can understand the Holy Spirit and how he will confirm the truth.

But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

The Holy Spirit has always accompanied God and his son, the Messiah, Christ as the power of God; in both the Old Testament and as well as New. There are numerous passages about the Holy Spirit, so we will cover some of the nuggets for clarification to bring some primary scriptures together for us to understand the gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven.

We will see that both; the message of Christ’s kingdom and also the introduction to the Holy Spirit, was delivered to Mary by the angel Gabriel.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Let’s look at the origin of Jacob’s kingdom at the beginning: establishing a nation of Kings of Israel. This is regarding the message of Israel which was spoken of by the angel Gabriel.

He specifically said Jesus will reign over the house of Jacob/Israel…this makes him “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” as mentioned in Revelation.

Then God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee, when thou fleddest from Esau thy brother. Again God appeared unto Jacob, after he came to Padan Aram, and blessed him. Moreover God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall be no more called Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God all-sufficient: grow, and multiply: a nation and a multitude of nations shall spring of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins. Also I will give the land, which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, unto thee: and unto thy seed after thee will I give that land. So God ascended from him in the place where he had talked with him.

Looking at the NT the baptism is fulfilled and also John is a witness of the Holy Spirit after the baptism. Both John and Jesus could easily recognize the spirit in each other because they also had the same spirit.

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

John’s mother was filled also:

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, her baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered by Him. And she exclaimed loudly, “Blessed [worthy to be praised] are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke.1.41,Luke.1.42,Luke.1.43&version=AMP

And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan [River], to be baptized by him. But John tried to prevent Him [vigorously protesting], saying, “It is I who need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” But Jesus replied to him, “Permit it just now; for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John permitted [it and baptized] Him. After Jesus was baptized, He came up immediately out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he (John) saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him (Jesus), and behold, a voice from heaven said,This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased and delighted!”

The Holy Spirit holds the power which performs any purpose of God’s sovereignty, be it ON someone or IN someone. Those with the Holy Spirit have power from God to orchestrate extraordinary displays of grace and power from God for them who are The Called. And of those called, they who will have his spirit is confirmed by he who bares witness to our spirit. He is also known as the Spirit of God as well as the Comforter. We understand that the angel Gabriel made an introduction to Mary. Martha also had an experience with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus testified as a witness of John’s spirit:

Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matt.11.13&version=KJV

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Now we recognize what this means to be a child of God. Those who are the Called, receive an inheritance just as Jesus inherited the spirit, and John was a witness to it:

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Now let’s visit the Old Testament to review the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit).

Genesis 1:2
” And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
http://olivetree.com/b2/Gen.1.2.KJV

Genesis 1:6
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
http://olivetree.com/b2/Gen.1.6.KJV

That’s power over nature. Okay, jumping to the NT for a second, more scripture regarding the Holy Spirit’s relationship with Jesus and God’s people.

And a fierce windstorm began to blow, and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already being swamped. But Jesus was in the stern, asleep [with His head] on the [sailor’s leather] cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?” And He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still (muzzled)!” And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness].
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark.4.37,Mark.4.38,Mark.4.39&version=AMP

Here in the OT are direct indications of those who know the Holy Spirit and also those who blasphemed the Holy Spirit!

And when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the Lord delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Judg.3.9,Judg.3.10&version=KJV

Beware, here is what happens if one commits blasphemy of the Holy Spirit:

But they rebelled, And grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore He changed into their enemy, And He fought against them. Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses [and they said], Where is He who brought our fathers up out of the [Red] Sea, with the shepherds of His flock [Moses and Aaron]? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in their midst,

Who caused His glorious arm and infinite power to go at the right hand of Moses, Dividing the waters before them to make for Himself an everlasting name,
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isa.63.12&version=AMP

We see the pattern which the Holy Spirit moved in power and through the relationship, it was was ON those whom served the God’s purposes in the OT.

We will review the transition to being filled with the spirit and no longer just the spirit on the people after the resurrection of Christ. We become the temple of the Lord with Christ’s resurrection power from the Holy Spirit as well. Here we see the spirit speaking:

The Spirit told me to go with them without the slightest hesitation. So these six brothers also went with me and we went to the man’s house.

When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as He did on us at the beginning [at Pentecost]. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

So, if God gave Gentiles the same gift [equally] as He gave us after we accepted and believed and trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ [as Savior], who was I to interfere or stand in God’s way? When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified and praised God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance that leads to eternal life [that is, real life after earthly death].”
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts.11.12,Acts.11.15,Acts.11.16,Acts.11.17,Acts.11.18&version=AMP

Once Christ died and received his glorified body, he then sent the Holy Spirit as a gift to fill those who believe and live inside the Believer’s Temple. Rather than on the believer as he previously was.

Now on the last and most important day of the feast, Jesus stood and called out [in a loud voice], “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”

But He was speaking of the [Holy] Spirit, whom those who believed in Him [as Savior] were to receive afterward. The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John.7.37,John.7.38,John.7.39&version=AMP

The Holy Ghost is a gift and also is actually the anointing!

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1John.2.25,1John.2.27&version=KJV

There is this also:

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John.14.26,John.14.27&version=KJV

It’s a dangerous situation to speak out against the Holy Spirit.

And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke.12.10,Luke.12.11,Luke.12.12&version=KJV

Another translation says:

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit [that is, whoever intentionally discredits the Holy Spirit by attributing the authenticating miracles done by Me to Satan], it will not be forgiven him [for him there is no forgiveness]. When they bring you before the synagogues and the magistrates and the authorities, do not be worried about how you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke.12.10,Luke.12.11,Luke.12.12&version=AMP

In conclusion, as heirs of God’s promises, the gift of the Holy Spirit is part of our inheritance which we also receive.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Cor.2.9,1Cor.2.10,1Cor.2.11,1Cor.2.12,1Cor.2.13,1Cor.2.14,1Cor.2.15,1Cor.2.16&version=KJV

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke.17.20,Luke.17.21,Luke.17.22&version=KJV

So here we have the main purpose of the gospel.

For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Pet.4.6,1Pet.4.14&version=KJV

So to that end:

Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies [spoken revelations—words of instruction or exhortation or warning]. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged—consecrated to Him—set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As a servant on a mission to share the good news, I look forward to sharing the truth from the inspired Word of Lord from the 66 books we reference as the Holy Bible. As in Psalms 105:17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:. I greet you with gladness.
